The Highlander 2018-19
Issue 5
page 15As I had to make graphics for both articles, I did that as soon as my writers and I agreed on ideas. It worked out quite nicely for the bottom articles, however for the top article it was a bit bigger than I anticipated, and ended up being a little bit pixelated.

Issue 4
page 12This page was a bit of a problem, as I originally had two articles on the page, but because of word count on one and a mediocre job on the other, I decided to cut it so that I wouldn't have to cut the article that was done well. It turned out looking great, but that was a pretty rough patch in the middle.
|
page 13This page was mostly ads, and because for the limited space, my writer went way over word count, even though I had designed the art on the page specifically for them. It was fine because I ended up just cutting some words, but I usually prefer not to cut if possible.
|
page 14There were a lot of ads this issue on my pages, so keeping balance was key. This meant that I put the graphic above the ads with text in-between so that it wouldn't seem so graphic heavy. I also tried to coordinate the colors so that they wouldn't clash.

Issue 3
page 2The Highlander is a publication for students, so any political articles need to be either relevant or very short. For this, I chose the latter, with emphasis being placed on the large graphics, and short articles for readability.
|
page 3This page was relatively simple page, with two articles and two graphics. I did have to resize a graphic because of a small surplus of words, but other than that, the page looks like I wanted it to.

Issue 2
page 17One student was given an entire page to fill, and they did their job. However, due to the massive amount of text, some white space was needed, so by adding some around the graphic, some sense of equilibrium was reached.
|
page 18The top article was short some words, so I threw together a last minute graphic that summarized a couple points in the article. It ended up looking decent, but not quite how I wished it would have looked.
|
page 19To compensate for a slightly shorter article and slightly smaller graphic, the staff box had to be enlarged. It throws off the page a little bit, but has no overall adverse affect on the page, so I'm pretty content with how it turned out, even though it could have been better.

The Highlander 2018-19
Issue 1
page 15Originally, I wanted to split the page diagonally instead of horizontally, but that's not really possible unless it's a graphic oriented page. I still wanted to do something a little bit different, so with a bit of wordplay, I got the diagonal in there and gave it pizazz.
|
page 16This page is just a standard two article page, and because both articles are relatively long, there's only one small graphic.
|
page 17The four elements on this page made it relatively easy to shape because the column needs to be on the outside, and I wanted the staff box to be a column as well. It was fun to move things around to make them fit on the page.
